Survey done to determine status of gopher tortoise population in 1999. This population is at or near maximum density. 2013 Site visit. reference 2013-cpa-0846 Area east of RR tracks prescribed burned. Recommended chemical control of Hardwoods. 20140819 site visit. reference 2014-cpa-1064. Hardwoods well controlled. Site looks good. Will need to focus efforts on west side of RR tracks as pines grow.
    Additional Notes
Controlled burning overdue, now planned for January or February 2001. May need to consider alternatives depending on the continuing drought. Next field inspection is scheduled for fall of 2003. Prescribe burning completed on 40 acres on 02/09/2004. No report received in 2007. 2010-Feb-24 Site visit: much of site does not have fuel for prescribed burning. Oaks will become a shading problem and will need to be controlled. Active gopher tortoise holes of all sizes present in good numbers east of railroad tracks. Few present west of tracks in young thicker stand of slash pine.
