    Monitoring Notes
    3/1/05 report: eagles nested at a new site and fledged 2 offspring in June 2004. Deed restrictions completed. Eagles observed during nesting season but nest site unknown in 2005. 5/8/06 report: 3 large eagle chicks observed at nest with adults foraging nearby June 2006: 3 offspring fledged in June 2/5/07 report: During winter 2006/7 the adults at nest used in 2002-2003; 35.7649???N, 81.8480???W (NAD83/WGS84) 1/28/08 report: fledged 3 in June 2007. 4/24/08: observed 3 large nestlings, beginning to exercise wings. signs posted around the conservation zone. 12/16/2008: site visit, observed rebuilt nest in tree; locals report adults eagles are back 12/16/2009: site visit, new sticks added to nest, marina reported adults in the area, signage was observed. 01/05/2011: site visit, observed 2 adult eagles at nest, restricted zone signage observed 12/19/2011: site visit, 2 adult eagles observed near nest. Dock encroachment near mitigation site #7 - contacted Duke Energy Shoreline Mgmt. 11/2012 - new nesting platform installed by Crescent at Mitigation Site 5. 04/21/2013: 1 juvenile, nestling eagle observed by JCA.
    Additional Notes
    Nest tree was killed by southern pine beetle infestation during Feb-April 2001; nest collapsed from tree during windstorm October 25, 2001. Financial assurances: letter of credit renewed 3/14/2007 Financial assurances: permittee notice of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but permittee commits to continue meeting permit requirements, letter of credit was cashed in Aug 7, 2009 and placed in USFWS special account.
