    Monitoring Notes
FWS ES staff (Arkasas and Louisiana) made a site visit on 02/28/2002 to the Plum Creek HCP Conservation Area, accompanied by Plum Creek staff, for FWS to verify the establishment of mitigation credits claimed by Plum Creek (8 RCW pair credits) and evaluate if foraging habitat and cluster maintenance met the standards set forth in the HCP. FWS Arkansas Field Office staff participated at Plum Creek in monitoring and translocating four RCW groups mitigated for by Plum Creek, on 03/25-26/2002; 04/03-05/2002; 04/15-17, 2002; 05/09-10/2002; 5/13-15/2002; 7/12/2002; and 04/04/2003.
    Additional Notes
The biological goal of the HCP is to increase the persistence and viability of the local RCW population on Plum Creek lands and indirectly on the adjacent Felsenthal NWR (and to a lesser extent the D'Arbonne NWR). The HCP will enhance the viability of the RCW population on Plum Creek lands by actively managing a 3,069-acre Conservation Area for RCWs and by consolidating fragmented RCW populations from outside the Conservation Area into the managed area. The Conservation Area will also increase the effective size of RCW populations on Federal lands, as three of the Conservation Area sub-units are adjacent to actively managed RCW habitat on Felsenthal NWR and a fourth sub-unit is adjacent to RCW habitat on D'Arbonne NWR.
