Action duration is periodic within the 30 years. For Holmgrens, disturbance from livestock and recreation has resulted in increased weed cover in the State Line population and this needs to be addressed due to strong population decline at Atkinville Wash(2016). Additional monitoring is being implemented by BLM/UVU to determine livestock impacts (2017). FY20: published paper on livestock impacts to Holmgren milkvetch. revamped monitoring of Holmgrens and Shivwits. For Shivwits, even though livestock is mostly excluded in habitat, herbivory from rabbits is high. Caging of individual plants is planned on BLM and NPS lands(2017). FY 19: Holmgren: Results of livestock trampling study indicate strong negative effects to Holmgren 1 year plants due to trampling in dormant months. Trampling doesn't appear to negatively impact seedlings b/c cows leave prior to seedling emergence. FY 19: Shivwits: BLM caged plants at Pahcoon Wash and NPS planted transplants. Decent transplant survival but poor seed production of caged individuals. Could be due to inbreeding depression, not likely resource limitation. FY21: Holmgren: The BLM and permittee agreed to remove livestock by Feb 1 in Atkinville Wash to avoid impacting seedlings. The permittee will make sure no salt licks or water troughs are located in or near the Wash to avoid concentrating livestock.

Both species have established germination protocols (Red Butte Garden and Zion NP). FY16,17: USFS and UVU have implemented pilot population augmentation effort for Holmgren milkvetch on TNC and BLM lands, implementation in 2015-2017. Results will be forthcoming and will guide protocols. FY19: NPS planted 25 Shivwits plants in Fall 2018 at Pahcoon Wash. NPS currently propagating additional plants at this population for fall 2020 planting. Poor seed viability is impacting propagation success. For Holmgrens, USFS and UVU implemented experimental population augmentations (10,000 seeds) at Purgatory, South Hills and State Line population. Scarified 1/4 of those seeds at each population. FY21: NPS published the Shivwits propagation protocol in the Native Plants Journal. NPS, USFS and UVU are propagating Shivwits in greenhouses and USFS collected 3,500 seeds from 30 greenhouse Shivwits plants prior to dormancy. Seed propagation and increase is a potential for Shivwits now, just like it is for Holmgrens.
