Area Description Information

Location "The Preserve" development site comprised of 127 acres is adjacent to 89th Ave SE and Old Hwy 99 SE, City of Tumwater; the 64-acre mitigation & conservation site is 1.4 miles SW of "The Preserve" site. Both sites are in Thurston County, WA.

Habitat The Conservation Site is bisected by the perennial Salmon Creek, about 25 acres of the site consists of seasonally inundated wetlands; wetlands are dominated by reed canarygrass in some areas, but include other emergents, sedges, smartweeds, grasses, rushes; upland portions of the site north of the creek are 2 to 10 feet higher in elevation, comprised of well-drained sandy soils. Non-native pasture grasses typical of recent livestock grazing and haying operations dominate the vegetation community at the Conservation Site. The Preserve development site has partially constructed single-family residential sub-division development; the site contains 2 small wetlands and a seasonal stream; approx. 37 acres of the project site known to be occupied by or providing potential habitat for the Olympia pocket gopher consists primarily of perennial grasses and annual forbs, with areas of encroaching invasive Scotch broom.
