The population was monitored on 2011 by UPRM as part of the 5 year review. 2017- UPRRP professor monitored the only known natural popuilation at LA Silla de Calderon. 2021 Population are being monitored by PLN and PRDNER at Silla de Calderon where they found at least 24 J. jamaicensis individuals During 2021-2023, despite extending the surveys beyond the Guilarte Commonwealth Forest boundaries into private properties surrounding the natural know population and visiting sites where historical records from herbarium specimens documented presence of the species (i.e., Río Abajo Commonwealth Forest and La Olimpia Forest), no new individuals has been found

The forest manager of the Guilarte Forest monitors diferent areas of the reserve to identify new populations. 2024- In Puerto Rico, we estimate that about 24 individuals (2 seedlings, 14 saplings and 8 adults) of J. jamaicensis currently exist in a single population at Silla Calderón in the Guilarte Commonwealth Forest. New initiative has found additional individuals on private lands. This same initiative looks to create conservation easements with private landowners and reintroduce individuals of the species. Currently these lands are being identified.
