Research tasks include locating existing violet populations and defining violet habitat conditions; collecting violet seeds for later dispersal and green house propagation, followed by seeding or outplanting into established populations; compare survival and success between the outplanted mature plants and the seed-dispersal plants; conduct adult and larva surveys to determine if increasing violet numbers/density has increased target butterflies. In addition, the grant will fund development of a pollinator curriculum for local 5-8 grades, create brochures and signs for 2 park Visitor Centers, and increase community awareness of silverspot and habitat restoration via local media channels, social media, and newsletter articles. that will be implemented January 2025-November 2027. Elements of this research grant award are also reported under Actions 1.1.3, 1.2.3, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.2.1.2, 2.2.1.7, and 5.1.

Other private lands in the area may come available for purchase, which may be high cost, but the limited geographic distribution of this butterfly means that close proximity sites are highly valuable if they have restoration potential. Since no lands are currently available for purchase, it is difficult to estimate these costs. Parcels in coastal Mendocino county are extremely expensive and variable in size and habitat quality.
