Ventura marsh milk-vetch final recovery plan 8 Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office (805) 644-1766 Ventura Marsh Milk-vetch Astragalus pycnostachyus var. lanosissimus 1 1 Manage habitat that supports the species to reduce or eliminate threats (6 populations) Ongoing Current U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ecological Services California Department of Parks and Recreation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ecological Services, University of California at Santa Barbara Management Contract, Graduate Student, Species Expert 20230823: UCSB is monitoring the spread and performance of an introduced population at their North Campus Open Space and at Carpinteria Salt Marsh. Arcadis is managing populations at North Shore and McGrath Parcel. 20240822: UCSB is monitoring the spread and performance of an introduced population at their North Campus Open Space, Coal Oil Point Reserve, and at Carpinteria Salt Marsh. Plants are perhaps declining in number at NCOS, but are germinating, growing, and reproducing well away from the planting area (by 100s of meters). No plants have been found at COPR or at CSM. UCSB has received additional funding from VFWO to continue monitoring and to measure environmental variables. Arcadis is managing populations at North Shore and McGrath Parcel. At North Shore, a few hundred plants are present, with many more seedlings of the year. Active construction of housing infrastructure has begun at the North Shore development. McGath Parcel plants that were in good condition in 2023 were flooded and drowned in the winter of 2023-2024. However, a few hundred seedlings germinated from seeds in the soil seed bank. The 10-year period of funding for restoration of the McGrath Parcel is ending, but North Shore is committing about $20k per year for at least several years to support continued recovery of the species. TNC planning for the Ormond restoration site continues, and may commence by 2026, and VMMV is likely to be incorporated in recovery.

KGN 20240826: Ongoing at North Shore and McGrath Parcel by Arcadis, and at North Campus Open Space by UCSB.UCSB has received about $12k from USFWS VFWO to both continue monitoring and investigate environmental influences on the species, especially N as the restoration site changes with succession.
