CESFO is monitoring the remaining individuals of 22 plants of Pleodendron macranthum planted in El Yunque National Forest in 2011. On 2016 the PRDNER monitored the natural populations of E. haematocarpa and conducted a threat assessment at El Yunque (EYNF). For 2017 the DNER will continue w the populations at the Sierra de Cayey and Carite Commonwealth Fporest. This project was completed. At present, Forest Service Staff monitors the populations at EYNF and is internally propagating the species to enhance the known populations. FS staff also monitors planted individuals of P. macranthum. No comprehensive monitoring has been completed for P. macranthum and its habitat.

However, there is no work on the establishment of seedling on natural populations of both species. Eugenia haematocarpa is currently propagated by Forest Service at El Yunque NF, and by the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust (Para La Naturaleza). The propagated material is primarily used to augment the natural populations and to establish new ex situ populations.

Forest Service is currently propagating Eugenia haematocarpa and Pleodendrom macranthum and reintroducing the material at EYNF. Forest Service Staff monitors the populations at EYNF and is internally propagating the species to enhance the known populations. This is an ongoing initiative and the material is opportunistically propagated upon availability of seed material, and later planted with the boundaries of EYNF. In addition, the PR Conservation Trust is reintroducing material of Eugenia haematocarpa within the Sierra de Cayey region (Las Robledas) and at Cañon San Cristobal. |
