Owens Basin Wetland and Aquatic Species Recovery Plan, Inyo and Mono Counties, California F 8 Reno Fish and Wildlife Office (775) 861-6300 Owens Tui Chub Gila bicolor ssp. snyderi 1 1.2 Maintain existing refuges for Owens tui chub Ongoing Current FY 1995 - FY 1999 Other U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Endangered Species Division, California Department of Fish and Game, U.S. Forest Service Management: Habitat Maintenance and Manipulation Internal Field Assistance, Internal Administrative Tui chub have been extirpated from Cabin Bar Ranch. It is unknown if they still occur in Owens Gorge.
Owens Basin Wetland and Aquatic Species Recovery Plan, Inyo and Mono Counties, California F 8 Reno Fish and Wildlife Office (775) 861-6300 Owens Tui Chub Gila bicolor ssp. snyderi 1 3.2 Research: Owens Tui Chub genetics Complete FY 2000 - FY 2004 FY 2000 - FY 2004 Other U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Endangered Species Division, California Department of Fish and Game, U.S. Forest Service Research: Genetics Contract In 2007 Chen, Parmenter, and May reported the results of microsatellite DNA analysis for Owens tui chub. They identified two distinct groups or lineages of tui chubs, an Owens lineage and a toikona lineage. The Owens lineage was more genetically similar to the subspecies Lahontan tui chub than the samples from Cabin Bar or the toikona lineage.
Owens Basin Wetland and Aquatic Species Recovery Plan, Inyo and Mono Counties, California F 8 Reno Fish and Wildlife Office (775) 861-6300 Owens Tui Chub Gila bicolor ssp. snyderi 2 2.1.1 Control non-native species from Fish Slough/build fish barriers Ongoing Current FY 1995 - FY 1999 Other U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Endangered Species Division, California Department of Fish and Game, U.S. Forest Service Management: Predator and Competitor Control Internal Technical Assistance, Internal Field Assistance, Internal Administrative This action (i.e., control non-native species) will likely occur indefinitely because of repeated, illegal introductions of non-native predators. Currently, there are no Owens tui chub in Fish Slough. The only invasive species that would affect milk-vetch is perennial pepperweed, which is being monitored and treated as needed.

LADWP and the cattle grazing lessee have been working on a grazing plan which is currently near completion. Grazing is excluded during the majority of the flowering period for the milk-vetch and does not occur at all where most of the population is located.

They also distributed information to visitors and generally provided a management presence to augment the agencies'. However, this volunteer patrol is not currently operating. BLM has completed a detailed vehicle route inventory as a baseline for allowing no new routes to develop via off-road use and has closed or re-routed routes that impacted sensitive resources. Monitoring, enforcement, and community outreach must be ongoing. An increased management presence would help deter further problems.
