KGN 20220830: Braunton's milkvetch, Lyon's pentachaeta, and Verity's dudleya all have some sort of management at some locations. KGN 20230831: Most populations of all species are under some degree of management, since most are on lands owned by government at some level. KGN 20240827: Most populations of all species are under some degree of management, since most are on lands owned or managed by a government entity. Much of the management is very minimal, however. SMMNRA has been active with recovery actions for PELY (monitoring, seed collection for future outplanting) and DUVE (monitoring, supplemental watering, nursery cultivation). PELY has had recent monitoring of populations on Catalina by CIC. ASBR has been monitored at the Oak Park Demonstration Garden by Ventura County.
Recovery Plan for Six Plants from the Mountains Surrounding the Los Angeles Basin F 8 Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office (805) 644-1766 Santa Monica Mountains dudleyea Dudleya cymosa ssp. ovatifolia 2 2.2 Develop and implement monitoring plans for all occurrences Ongoing Current FY 2009 Other City governments, County governments, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Game, Private landowners Management: Population Monitoring Labor type not yet selected 10,000/year Ann Dorsey is drafting a protocol monitoring strategy for Dudleya parva, Dudleya cymosa ssp. marcescens, Dudleya verityi, and Dudleya cymosa ssp. ovatifolia. KGN 20190829: Monitoring plans for Dudleyas and P. lyonii are still in planning stages. Monitoring is uneven in both time and space. Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is developing survey and monitoring plans for D. cymosa subspecies after the Woolsey fire of 2018. KGN 20230821: SMMNRA is beginning monitoring of DUVE at several locations. There is no structured plan or funding for monitoring all species at intervals appropriate to species life histories. KGN 20240827: DUVE monitoring continues, funded by USFWS VFWO. SMMNRA has been monitoring PELY at several locations, as has CIC on Catalina.
Recovery Plan for Six Plants from the Mountains Surrounding the Los Angeles Basin F 8 Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office (805) 644-1766 Santa Monica Mountains dudleyea Dudleya cymosa ssp. ovatifolia 2 3.1 Establish a survey program, and follow protocols, for surveys Ongoing Current FY 2009 Other City governments, County governments, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Game, Private landowners Research Species Expert Ann Dorsey is drafting a protocol monitoring strategy for Dudleya parva, Dudleya cymosa ssp. marcescens, Dudleya verityi, and Dudleya cymosa ssp. ovatifolia. KGN 20190829: Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is developing survey and monitoring plans for D. cymosa subspecies after the Woolsey fire of 2018. KGN 20230831: There is no structured plan or funding for surveying all species at areas between or around known occurrences. KGN 20240827: No changes.
Recovery Plan for Six Plants from the Mountains Surrounding the Los Angeles Basin F 8 Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office (805) 644-1766 Santa Monica Mountains dudleyea Dudleya cymosa ssp. ovatifolia 2 3.25 Surveys for Dudleya cymosa ssp. Ovatifolia Planned Other U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Game Work type not yet selected Labor type not yet selected 10,000/year KGN 20190829: Subspecies ovatifolia now considered to to be comprised of two subspecies- ovatifolia and agourensis. agourensis was severely impacted by Woolsey Fire of 2018. Santa Barbara Botanic Garden has a grant to survey, monitor, rescue and restore these subspecies KGN 20210831: Additional genetics work by SBBG has confirmed separation between ssp. ovatifolia and ssp. agourensis. Additionally, it seems likely that the ssp. ovatifolia plants in Orange County are of at least 1, and maybe 2 undescribed taxa, but formal description and more genetics are needed. Surveys showed that most populations of subspecies ovatifolia and agourensis in the Santa Monica Mtns were not severely impacted by the Woolsey Fire. Restoration research continues. KGN 20230831: SBBG has monitored this species in conjunction with the Woolsey fire, and numbers are contained in a 2022 report. KGN 20240827: No surveys in general. However, SBBG has published that the Orange County "subsp. ovatifolia" is indeed a distinct species, and it is no longer considered as part of the listed taxa.
Recovery Plan for Six Plants from the Mountains Surrounding the Los Angeles Basin F 8 Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office (805) 644-1766 Santa Monica Mountains dudleyea Dudleya cymosa ssp. ovatifolia 2 4.3 Dudleya species research Ongoing Current FY 2008 Other U.S. Geological Survey, Biological Resources Division, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Game Research: Demographic Studies Species Expert Ann Dorsey of NPS published a study that included demographic and life history information for many of the listed Dudleya species in the Santa Monica Mountains. She is now in the process of conducting more in-depth demographic studies for several of the listed Dudleya species populations. KGN 20190829: Santa Barbara Botanic Garden has funding to survey, monitor, rescue and restore the Dudleya cymosa taxa after the 2018 Woolsey Fire. Additionally, they have funding to figure out how to enhance lichen substrate for D. verityi restoration post 2013 Springs fire. Cal State Channel Islands monitored D. verityi after the Springs Fire, and participated in largely unsuccessful restoration efforts, including drilling planting holes and attaching mature lichens to rock faces, to enhance D. verity recruitment and survival. KGN 20220831: SMMNRA/SBBG have received 3 yr of funding from the Ventura FWO to monitor, emergency irrigate, and conservation seed bank Dudleya verityi. Additionally, SBBG is monitoring Dudleya cymosa ovatifolia and marcescens. KGN 20230831: The actions listed for SBBG in 2019 have been completed. The actions listed as new in 2022 are ongoing. KGN 20240827: The actions listed as new in 2022 are ongoing.
