Beginning in 2011, BLM Las Cruces DO restored more than 12,000 acres of grassland habitat for aplomado falcons. In 2014, 1,000 acres of coastal prairie was enhanced by brush control efforts on the Bahia Grande Unit of Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge through a cooperative agreement with Friends of Laguna Atascosa NWR. In addition, 24 mature yucca's were planted across 3,000 acres of Mustang Island State Park in Nueces County TX. The yuccas will provide nesting habitat for Aplomado Falcons. In 2015, the Coastal Program, Laguna Atascosa NWR, and Friends of LANWR enhanced 560 acres of salty prairie on the Bahia Grande Unit of LANWR to benefit N. Aplomado Falcons. Work included brush control. | |||||||||||
