Nichol's Turk's-head Cactus F 2 Arizona Ecological Services Field Office (602) 242-0210 Nichol's Turk's head cactus Echinocactus horizonthalonius var. nicholii 2 122 Monitor populations and habitat on BLM lands Ongoing Current Prior to FY 1995 Bureau Land Management , Other Bureau Land Management , U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Office of Endangered Species, USFWS Regional Office 2 Research: Demographic Studies Contract Monitoring data that we have received has been sporadic from different sources including BLM, consultants, and volunteers. BLM contracted with Margrit McIntosh, affiliated with UofArizona, and five other researchers to establish 4 plots on Waterman Peak. These were monitored from 1995 to 2018 and provided information on size, flowering, mortality, and general condition. They established 2 smaller plots on the south side of the Waterman's in 2016. Monitoring of all 6 plots will continue in 2019.FWS (K.Robertson) revisted 1986 plots and areas of high density in summer 2018. FWS recorded location coordinates and conducted quick assessment of plant and habitat conditions.
